Rheology is a branch of science that examines and treats male and female urinary tract diseases (kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, urethra) and male sexual and fertility (having children) diseases (testis, penis; infertility or sexual problems).

Biruni University Hospital Department of Rheology successfully performs all examination and treatment procedures related to rological diseases with its experienced and academic staff. Rheological surgeries in our hospital are performed using minimally invasive methods, endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques. While holmium laser and plasmakinetic technology are used in the treatment of prostate and stone diseases, varicocele surgery is performed by microsurgery. In addition, advanced methods are used in the diagnosis and treatment of male sexual problems.

Kidney Stone Treatment

The newest and most effective methods are used in the treatment of kidney stones. Kidney stones are treated with minimally invasive methods such as ESWL (extracorporeal shock wave therapy), URS (reteroscopy) and RIRC (retrograde intrarenal surgery).

Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer occurs when the cells in the bladder wall multiply abnormally. It is more common in men and usually occurs as a result of smoking or exposure to chemicals.

Symptoms:

  • Bleeding in the urine (visible or detected by laboratory tests)
  • Pain during urination
  • Frequent urination
  • Passing particles in the urine

Diagnosis and Treatment:

  • Cystoscopy: This is the gold standard method for the definitive diagnosis of bladder cancer. A fiberoptic camera is used to look at the bladder directly.
  • TUR Bladder/Tumor: It is the closed scraping of tumors in the bladder. This procedure is performed for diagnosis, treatment and pathological staging. The patient is usually discharged the next day.
  • Cystectomy: In bladder cancers that have entered the muscle, the bladder may need to be surgically removed. A new urinary bladder can be made from the intestine and the patient can urinate normally.

Prostate Diseases

The prostate is a gland located under the bladder and surrounds the urinary tract. Prostate diseases are common in young in men it can manifest itself as prostatitis (inflammation), and in older ages as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or prostate cancer.

Symptoms:

  • Difficulty urinating
  • Weak urine flow
  • Frequent urination
  • A feeling that the bladder has not been completely emptied after urination

Prostate Cancer:

It is recommended that men have regular prostate examinations starting at the age of 40. When prostate cancer is diagnosed early, the chance of treatment is quite high. Methods such as PSA test and prostate biopsy are used in diagnosis.

Other Treatments

  • Varicocele Surgery: It is performed by microsurgery. It is an effective method in the treatment of male infertility.
  • Male Sexual Problems: Hormone tests, penile Doppler and various treatment options (shock wave therapy, injections, penile prosthesis) are used in the treatment of conditions such as erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation.

Biruni University Hospital Department of Neurology offers reliable and effective solutions to its patients with its innovative treatment methods and technological infrastructure.
