Podology

Podology, which examines the physiology, anatomy, mechanics and pathology of the foot, is a field of health care that aims to diagnose and treat foot diseases. Podology aims to prevent foot problems and alleviate existing clinical foot problems. Different health problems may arise over time in the feet, which carry the body's burden throughout a lifetime. Bone and joint deformations, ingrown nails, calluses, warts, nail or skin fungus and problems related to sweating are among the most common foot problems.

Medical foot care at Biruni University Hospital Hand and Foot Center not only eliminates such problems, but also prevents new problems with its protective feature.

Podological Procedures

Podological procedures include medical foot care aimed at aesthetics and health. During these procedures, hygienic nail cutting and design, cleaning and polishing the nail surface, and removal of hardened skin are performed. Thanks to this care performed with medical devices and special milling tools, it is possible to have aesthetic and healthy feet.

Ingrown Toenail

Ingrown toenail can occur for reasons such as incorrect nail cutting, unconscious pedicure, tight shoes, pregnancy, excess weight, fungal infection or deformity due to trauma. In these cases, the ingrown problem is solved by applying a three-piece wire system or band system (orthonxis) without the need for surgical intervention. Since surgical procedures generally do not offer a permanent solution, correcting the shape of the nail is a more effective method.

Fungal Nail

Fungal infection is a contagious disease that disrupts physical and visual comfort. During the treatment process, the nail tissue is mechanically cleaned to remove infectious agents. In this way, the effectiveness of drug treatment is increased and the duration of the disease is shortened with regular care.

Diabetic Foot Care

One of the most common problems encountered by diabetic patients is poor circulation and loss of sensation in the feet. In the first stage of the treatment process, superficial and deep sensory tests are performed to determine whether there is neuropathy. Foot care is performed using special milling cutters and blunt instruments for diabetic feet. This process is supported by special products that strengthen the skin tissue and possible complications are prevented.

Deformed Nail

Thickening is frequently seen in nails that have undergone deformation due to impacts or other reasons. Such nails are thinned with special devices and brought to their normal thickness and shape. Gel nail (onychoplasty) application can be made to ensure that the nail grows properly or to preserve its shape. This procedure provides an aesthetic appearance and provides visual relief to the patient.

Gel System (Onychoplasty)

The gel system used to complete missing nails or to preserve the shape of deformed nails is a medical prosthetic nail application. It is preferred because it offers an aesthetic appearance as well as supporting the treatment process.

Callus Treatment

Callus occurs due to improper pressure, rubbing or pressure in different areas, especially on the soles of the feet. The callus tissue is cleaned with appropriate milling cutters and protective support materials are used to prevent it from recurring.

Heel Cracks

Cracks formed on the heels; It occurs due to reasons such as skin dryness, weight gain, systemic disorders, medication use or continuous intervention. Cracks can increase the risk of infection. In this case, the problematic areas are cleaned with special diamond milling cutters and supported with moisturizing and repairing products. Protective measures are taken to prevent recurrence.
